Peter RHODES
In answer to our appeal for contributions, the late P.J. Rhodes wrote: I attended Cambridge in 1967, Munich in 1972 (just after the attack at the Olympics, so the airlines were very jumpy), Oxford in 2007 (most of the last: I had two commitments in the same week, and had to divide my time between the two). From 1972 I remember the introductory lecture of Louis Robert (the only time I was in his presence): one should explore on horseback; walking is too slow, but a car is too fast and one misses things.
